Our restaurant of the month for May brings us to HopScotch Café in Downtown Dunedin. If you like charcuterie and beer, this is the place for you. Charcuterie boards are not just fun to say but are delicious arrangements of meats, cheeses, nuts, and fruits. Yum! HopScotch Café has a vintage music - theme that is incorporated throughout their menu. The owners, Oakley and Lori Carlson, have a real love for 60’s, 70’s and 80’s songs. The couple incorporated names, such as, “Fly Me To The Moon” and “We Don’t Need No Education” to describe their sandwiches. The laid back atmosphere of HopScotch also makes for a great place to stop by with friends or after a long day at work.

In 2017, Oakley and Lori, set out on a road trip from rainy Seattle to sunny Florida. Oakley and Lori dreamed of a far away place that was warm all year and would allow them to open a restaurant together. With little convincing, the couple sold their home and packed up an 18-foot trailer to drive across the country. Oakley and Lori enjoyed the ride to Florida by visiting the painted canyons of Moab in Utah and the breathtaking Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Lori even had a Fast n Furious moment when she single handedly drove their single- axle trailer over the Continental Divide without falling off the edge. On their journey, Oakley and Lori visited family in North Carolina to get married. The couple was on a mission to get their bucket list items checked off. Driving down the Atlantic Coast, the newlyweds were in search of the perfect location. As the couple continued, they were getting discouraged until they stumbled upon beautiful Dunedin. The atmosphere of Dunedin was perfect because of the great people and good food, we know what they are talking about. In 2019, HopScotch Café opened and became what it is today. In the same year of opening, they won Best Tapas/ Small Plates with The Best of Tampa.
